Chase your dreams! As a child she was always taking stray animals home. She has always loved animals and wanted to protect and help them. She knew from a young age she'd become a Veterinarian! She believes your "personal dreams define you".

To follow her dream of becoming a Veterinarian she became a surgery technician for Dr Donald Piermattei (author of multiple surgery texts books) prior to entering Colorado State University - College of Veterinary Medicine where she obtained her DVM in 1977. After graduation she returned home to New Jersey where she worked in a private practice. Within a year she accepted a Small Animal Medicine & Surgery Internship at Iowa State University. Immediately upon completion she was offered her Surgery Residency in Small Animal Surgery and accepted into the Masters of Science Program at Iowa State University. Her official title is Veterinary Orthopedic Surgeon which means she completed all the surgery requirements for both a 1 year Surgery Internship; and then a 4 year Surgery Residency program. After a long and extremely successful career Dr Caroline Runyon is retired September 23, 2022.

As a surgeon, she has been teaching & taking special courses within orthopedic to improve her techniques for faster patient recovery since the 1980s. She knows that doing your best often requires long hours of commitment! There was a time, when UPEI - AVC had only one of the four required surgeons... for almost 2 years - Yes that one person covering all surgeries at Eastern Canada for UPEI - AVC was Dr Runyon! She was responsible for teaching surgery to 240 students and the four interns; she did both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery for all small animals; and taught all the surgery classes! Yes she worked every Christmas, Easter, etc. Those years she had a few locums which were a welcomed sight!
A few years ago at Dr Cathy Adam's Fairvale Animal Hospital in Rothesay, NB on Dec 23rd 830pm Dr Runyon saw a dog in the waiting room for Dr Adam's and realized she was looking at a dog with a strange and weird disease... she knew to immediately heavily dose him and by midnight with the help of Veterinarian eye specialist Dr Aubry Webb they had discovered the 13th case globally!
Dr Runyon is living her dream of a life of helping small animals experience a better quality of life!

Our Wylie loved life... Our Wild One
Caroline's right hand girl... loyal & loving for 16.5 years.... She loved to hike.. She picked this beach for us... for years she's been able to run free like the wind... she'd herd the fish 4/5 hrs a day... ride in/swim by our kayak... then reroute kayaks to shore when she got tired...

She's running with Tory, Blackie, Willy, Duchess, Hero, Mousoid, Oscar, Mickey, Boom, Spencer all the meow meows, and woof woofs we love so much and will forever remember how special they made our lives!

Critters forever in our hearts!

Dr Runyon enjoys the wildlife all around her home, surgery, consulting, and teaching!  All our mixed breed cats were rescued... Mousoid & Ruby are our funny critters who like to take walks on the beach with us! When we lose our critters we plant their special tree... We have: Syb's tree, Hero's tree, Kins' tree, Willie's clematis, and Wylie's Tree! Ruby was a cat with 9+ lives... she survived jumping off a ten foot drop! She gained her special house loud snore ... late that summer she went walk about... we hope she's relocated! Hard to believe we lost Wylie so many years ago - always tough.
